IPV8 Review

Pioneer4You’s IPV8 was an interesting offering at an interesting price. The big question was how it stacked up against the Sigelei Fuchai 213, and Ian and Chris had plenty to say about it.
This is an older review, and the IPV8 is not sold on our site, so read it as a look back at a solid 230-watt mod and at the details that separate a good mod from a great one.
Short version: Ian and Chris both scored the IPV8 a B+. It is comfortable, fires well and fits 25 mm atomizers, but the Fuchai 213 won on build quality and preheat.
What we liked
Ergonomics and finish
The IPV8 is a very comfortable mod to hold. It has a nice bevel and a great stone-like finish that is gripping and forgiving at the same time.
Power and atomizer fit
It fires well and tops out at a formidable 230 watts. It also takes all the standard atomizer sizes, even 25 mm, so wider tanks and RDAs can sit on top without hanging over the edge.
Where the Fuchai 213 pulled ahead
All in all, the IPV8 is a nice mod. But the Fuchai 213 beat it in two important ways:
- Build quality: the Fuchai 213 is sturdier and more precise.
- Power preheat: the Fuchai’s preheat lets it run heavier-gauge wire and large, elaborate coils more effectively.
We liked the IPV8, we really did. We just did not like it quite as much as the Fuchai.
Why preheat matters to coil builders
Thick wire and complex coils such as Claptons have more metal to heat, so they can take a moment to warm up, which vapers call ramp-up or lag. Preheat sends a short burst of extra power at the start of each fire to close that gap, then settles back to your set wattage.
If you build your own coils, that is a real advantage. Our guide to building a basic coil is a good place to start.
The scores
- Ian’s score: B+
- Chris’s score: B+
That is a solid grade for a comfortable, capable mod. For comparison, Sigelei’s follow-up earned an A from both hosts in our Fuchai 213 Plus review. You can also read our original Fuchai 213 review.
What to look for in any box mod
The IPV8 and Fuchai matchup is a good lesson in what separates a good mod from a great one:
- Build quality: firm buttons, a well-fitted battery door and a 510 connection that does not wobble.
- Power delivery: preheat or a similar feature if you run heavier builds.
- Atomizer fit: a top plate wide enough for your tank or RDA.
- Comfort: shape and finish matter when a device lives in your hand all day.
- Battery care: high-wattage mods need quality batteries. See our battery guide and our mechanical mod battery safety tips.
