How to Build a Basic Coil

Building can be pretty intimidating the first time, but once you do it, it won't be! Use this step by step guide and instructional video to learn how to build a very basic coil. It's a great way to get started, or just have something basic to vape on, whatever you're using it for, this is a great place to start.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

1. 24 Gauge Kanthal
2. Tweezers
3. Wire Snips
4. 1/8"" Phillips Screwdriver (or coil jig)
5. an RDA
6. an Ohm Reader or Regulated Mod
7. Organic Cotton (we use Japanese organic cotton pads)
8. Scissors
9. Delicious E-Liquid!

Step 1. Cut two pieces of Kanthal (24 gauge) wire & Wrap it around the screwdriver 8 times

Cut two pieces of 24 gauge kanthal (approx 5 to 8 inches long) and wrap one wire around a 1/8"" Phillips screwdriver 8 times. Avoid overlapping the wire and gaps. Do the same thing with the second piece of wire.

Step 2. Cut the Leads and Prep Your RDA

Cut the leads (two unwrapped ends of the coil), be sure to leave one side longer then the other. We recommend about 2 1/2 inches on one side, and 1 1/2 inches on the other side. Remove your RDA from your mod, and screw the RDA onto an ohm reader (recommended) or place it on a regulated mod.

Step 3. Thread your coils & Heat them up!

Take your wrapped coil and thread the ends of the coil (leads) into the post holes on your RDA. Tighten the Post hole set screws. Snip the coil leads down to the posts. Rotate your RDA and thread the other coil into the post holes. Tighten the screws. Using the regulated mod or Ohm reader, heat the coils until they glow red. Using the Tweezers, pinch the coils together **NOTE: DO NOT TOUCH COILS WITH TWEEZERS WHILE FIRING (unless they are ceramic tweezers)**

Step 4. Center your coils and Check the resistance

Center your coils over each half of the RDA. Don't let any part of the coil touch the RDA except for where the leads touch the post holes. Check your coil resistance and be sure not to build lower than your battery can handle. (Don't know what resistance to build to? Check out our battery safety resources here!)

Step 5. Cut two pieces of cotton and string it through your new coil build

Cut two pieces of japanese or organic cotton. Twist the ends of the cotton to fit through the centers of the coils. Thread the cotton through the coils and then cut the ends off the cotton, giving some room to tuck the ends underneath the coil and into the juice well. Using tweezers, tuck the ends of the cotton into the RDA juice well, and be sure to leave a little room in the middle to get some airflow underneath the coil.

Step 6. Apply E-liquid and Enjoy!

Apply some delicious e-liquid to the cotton, completely saturating it. Attach the RDA back to your mod, replace your top-cap back on and enjoy!
