Alien vs. Predator – Device Review

Alien vs. Predator. SMOK vs. Wismec. Mod vs. mod. Richard from VapingWithTwisted420 came back with what we billed as the most epic showdown in vaping history, pitting the SMOK Alien 220W against the Wismec Predator 228W.
This is an older review, and neither device is sold on our site, so read it as a look back at a classic matchup and a guide to comparing any two mods.
Short version: The Predator arrived pitched as the Alien killer, and in this head-to-head it looks like the Predator may have won the round. The small differences between them included the tank, the screen and the exterior.
The contenders
SMOK Alien 220W
The Alien had already been out for a little while by the time of this review. It came as a full starter kit with SMOK’s TFV8 Baby Beast tank and offered up to 220 watts, with temperature control.
Wismec Predator 228W
The brand-new Predator looked like the Alien killer. It offered up to 228 watts, also with temperature control, which put it head to head with SMOK’s Alien.
Where they differed
Both mods do the same basic job, but small differences can make all the difference. Richard’s in-depth comparison looked at:
- The tank each device pairs with
- The screen
- The exterior, from shape to finish
- And more, covered in his full video
The verdict
Looks like the Predator may have won this round. The Alien was still a solid pick, especially as a complete kit with the TFV8 Baby Beast, but the newcomer edged it out in this showdown.
How to compare two mods yourself
Head-to-head reviews like this one are a great way to choose between devices. Whatever you are comparing, look at:
- Power range and modes: make sure the wattage and temperature control options fit how you vape.
- Screen and controls: a readable display and solid buttons matter every single day.
- Build and ergonomics: weight, shape and finish decide how a device feels in your hand.
- What comes in the box: a kit with a matched tank can be simpler than buying the parts separately.
- Batteries: high-wattage mods that take two cells need a quality matched pair and careful charging. See our battery guide and mechanical mod battery safety tips.
If the TFV8 line interests you, our look at the TFV12 covers its successor, and our SMOK Stick V8 review covers another SMOK starter kit. New to high-wattage vaping? Start with what sub-ohm vaping is.
Where things stand now
Many vapers have since moved to smaller pod systems and disposable vapes. If you still run a box mod, keep it fed with our vape juice, or get a monthly box from the Zamplebox Club, curated to your flavor profile, with the option to skip, pause or cancel anytime.
