ZampleTalk Episode 54: Weird Vape Mods!

Vapers love showing off their mods. The thing is, some mods are better left at home.
In ZampleTalk Episode 54, Jared and Chris took a hard look at some of the strangest vape devices they could find. They admitted it was a little hypocritical, since they are both proud weirdos themselves.

Why weird mods exist
During the box mod boom, makers competed on looks as well as features. That opened the door to unusual shapes, loud finishes and designs that were more conversation piece than daily driver. Some of those designs were clever. Others were just strange.
For vapers who feel the need to stand out in a crowd, that was part of the appeal. If that sounds like you, this episode is a tour of the weirdest devices vaping had to offer at the time.
What matters more than looks
A strange shell is fine. What is inside matters more, because the battery and electronics do the real work. Before you buy any device, unusual or not, check the basics:
- Batteries. Use the right cells for the device, and rewrap or replace any cell with a torn wrap. Our recommended batteries guide explains what to look for.
- Protection. Unregulated mechanical mods need extra care, so read up on mechanical mod battery safety first.
- Coils and ohms. Make sure your atomizer suits the device. Our explainer on ohms and sub-ohm vaping covers the basics.
- Maker and seller. Buy from established brands and from retailers that verify age.
Where things stand now
Many vapers have since moved to compact pod systems and disposable vapes, though mods still have a loyal following. Every vaping product sold in the US now needs FDA premarket authorization, so the device market looks quite different from when this episode aired.
