VooPoo vs. Tony B of Vapor Trail? Vape Drama Update
Every industry has its drama, and vaping is no exception. This video was our reaction to a falling-out involving one of our fellow vaping YouTubers, Tony B of Vapor Trail, and the companies behind a mod he had been developing.
Here’s the story as it stood when we made the video, plus a quick primer on the tech involved.
What happened
Tony B had been working on a squonk box mod for a while. The device was being made through Vandy Vape, and the chip that runs it was, until shortly before our video, supposed to come from VooPoo.
Then something happened between Tony B and VooPoo, and it sounded like he would no longer be working with them. The full details weren’t public, so in the video we reacted to the situation as it looked at the time and asked viewers what they thought about the whole thing.
A quick primer: squonk mods and chips
A squonk mod is a box mod with a squeezable bottle of e-liquid inside. Squeeze the bottle and juice travels up through a hollow 510 pin into a bottom-feeder rebuildable dripping atomizer (a BF RDA), so you can keep dripping without taking the atomizer off. The chip, or chipset, is the circuit board that runs a regulated mod: power output, the screen, safety cutoffs and features like temperature control. That’s why a change of chip supplier can mean real redesign work for a device that is still in development.

Where things stand now
This post is a snapshot of a story that was still developing, so we won’t guess at how it ended. Squonking still has a loyal following among rebuilders, while many vapers have moved to pod systems and disposable vapes.
