Extracurricular: How to Blow an O with @Nate_Vaper

Call this one extracurricular. You don’t need tricks to enjoy vaping, but the O is the first trick most people learn, and we went over the basics with @Nate_Vaper.
Here’s what you need before you start, the technique step by step, and fixes for the most common problems.
What you need
- Dense vapor. Thick vapor holds its shape better. Higher-VG e-liquids usually make denser vapor, and our guide to PG and VG explains the difference.
- Still air. A breeze, fan or air vent will pull a ring apart before it forms.
- A dark background. It makes your rings easier to see while you practice.
How to blow an O, step by step
- Take a slow puff and hold the vapor in your mouth.
- Shape your lips into a small O, as if you’re saying “oh,” and pull your tongue back and down, out of the way.
- Push out a short pulse of vapor from the back of your throat, like a soft, silent cough. Some people gently tap a cheek with a finger instead.
- Stop the pulse right away. One quick push makes one ring, while a long exhale just makes a cloud.
- Repeat. With practice, you can get several rings out of one mouthful.
Troubleshooting
- No ring at all: your O is too wide, or you’re pushing out too much vapor at once.
- Rings fall apart: the air around you is moving, or your pulse is too hard.
- Faint, wispy rings: take a fuller puff or try a higher-VG juice.
A mirror helps, too, since you can see exactly what your lips are doing.
Where things stand now
Vape tricks still have a following among adult vapers, but the federal minimum age for all tobacco and vaping products has been 21 since December 2019, and where you can vape varies by state and city. Practice only where vaping is allowed and away from people who don’t want your vapor, and if you use a high-powered device, read up on vaping batteries first. Our vaping etiquette guide covers the rest.
WARNING: This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical. For adults 21+ only.
