Can Vaping Make You Sick?

Can Vaping Make You Sick?

"

This is a question that many smokers ask before diving into the vaping community.

Even for those that have been in the game for a while, this might still be a valid question that you’ve had in the back of your mind. Maybe you just want to check your non-vaping, naysayer friends. Whatever the case, we definitely have you covered.

The truth is that vaping can have some side effects. The good news is that these side effects are typically pretty mild, and they can pretty easily be avoided. Just take our few pieces of advice and your vaping journey should be smooth sailing.

Let’s break down three of the more common side effects and talk about what you can do to avoid them.

Dehydration

One of the most commonly known side effects of vaping is dehydration. One of the primary ingredients of eliquid is propylene glycol, a viscous, colorless liquid that is also found in everything from asthma inhalers to food and drinks. Propylene glycol is a hygroscopic substance substance, which means that it binds to the water molecules in your body. If you’ve ever found yourself especially thirsty while puffing away on your all day vape, propylene glycol would be the culprit.

On the bright side, this is a side effect that is pretty easy to remedy. First things first: drink that water! Make sure to keep a glass of water at your side throughout the day and take small sips every few minutes for maximum hydration. Alternatively, aim to use e-liquids that are higher in vegetable glycerine versus propylene glycol. Vegetable glycerine doesn’t have the same hygroscopic qualities and will produce a less noticeable throat hit to boot. If you’re curious about what percentage of vegetable glycerine and propylene glycol your favorite liquids contain, you can always contact the manufacturer. At ZampleBox, we’re always sure to list that information on each product page.

Coughing

This side effect is more common in people that have just switched over to vaping from a long-term smoking habit. The good news is that it doesn’t last long; this article shows that research done in this specific area demonstrated that only miniscule number of vapers still felt the effects of coughing once they had become accustomed to their new vaping lifestyle. Often times, new vapers will cough when they try to inhale the vapor directly into lungs, similar to how they smoked cigarettes. After adjusting to a more mouth-to-lung style of vaping, the coughing typically subsides. Coughing can also be caused by vaping at a nicotine strength that is too high for your vaping style. Try cutting your nicotine strength in half, it should make a big difference.

Anxiety

Anxiety is often characterized by an increased heart rate, trembling, and shortness of breath. It is often accompanied by feelings of apprehension and nervousness. If these things sound familiar, you’re definitely not alone. Anxiety related disorders impact more than 40 million adults in the United States alone.

As you probably already know, nicotine is a stimulant, much like caffeine. Remember how you felt the last time you went for that fourth cup of coffee? You probably felt pretty anxious, right? Well, the same thing goes with nicotine. If you start feeling a little anxious while you vape, it might be time to step down from your preferred nicotine strength. In general, most vapers won’t experience this side effect, but it’s definitely something to keep in mind, especially if you’re a new vaper.

If you’re not quite ready to step down in nicotine, you can also attempt to reel back the frequency of your puffs. If you’re watching television or working on your laptop, you can keep your mod a few feet away from you to avoid the compulsive hand to mouth motion that we all fall into when we’re distracted. You can also purchase yourself a mod with a puff counter, our personal favorite is the SMOK G-Priv 2 230W MOD, which also allows you to add puff limits so that your mod will lock when you exceed your preset limit. So there you have it! As you can tell, it’s really easy to avoid these effects. Just go slow, adjust your nicotine when necessary, and make sure you drink enough water! As always, be safe when vaping. If you ever need us, give us a shout.
